I missed the writers room because it’s on at an ungodly hour for me, but if I’m allowed to cast my vote I would ditch 1984 and go with the rest. Most people have heard of 1984, but it’s very rarely read (I think there was a study that it was one of the least read best selling books or something, like Hawking’s A Brief History of Time).

If you think about this from a purely commercial perspective, all of the books you have there (probably excluding 1984) are books studied in high schools. They’re perennial favourites. If you do a rap for each one, you’re going to have a built in audience of either students or teachers across the English speaking world.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for this feedback — super helpful. I’m always open for notes, any time :) The group also preferred doing Animal Farm over 1984. I didn’t realize it wasn’t as popular in schools. It’s a personal favorite in respect to its influence on modern political dystopian sci-fi. And I still have heart some of the takes I worked through. But I also didn’t spend as much time brainstorming takes for AF. So I’m actually working though that one now. My struggle so far is that it’s essentially already a satire. And my comedic takes seem to be clashing with that. WYT? Getting back to 1984 for moment, your comment made me look into the poll. “42% said they had falsely claimed to have read [it] in order to impress.” Could this be another premise? If the RAPort leans into being rarely read, it might be even more relatable. Students and adults, — everyone — lies about having read it. Why? Who are they trying to impress? And are those people also pretending to be impressed? And it’s easy to fake having read it because the ideas are basically modern political sci-fi tropes. Maybe I’m beating a dead pig here, but maybe the premise is all about mixing up those tropes, or mixing up the books (AF, 1984), and/or my Back To The Future “1985” premise. The song would be a back and forth between two posers trying to impress each other with their knowledge of the book. IDK. Maybe I’m just procrastinating on AF premises, lol. Thanks again.

I'm not saying 1984 wouldn't work (I have read it several times, honestly, and I really enjoy it) but you wanted 4 out off the five and that's what I gave you. 1984 would be an excellent stand alone piece, but the others form a high school reading list collection and I think there's potential in that.

Doing the 1984 one with two posers trying to out do each other would be great.
